Doug & Leslie Shumaker
Owners and partners in this wonderful life
Doug grew up on a farm outside Banks, Oregon, a small rural community in Western Washington County. Doug completed his calling to become a physician when he graduated from medical school in 1994. However, he was determined to return to his rural roots and bought a 5-acre property in North Plains in 2001 and eventually planted the vineyard in 2014.
Doug (mostly) retired from the clinical practice of medicine in 2024, after 23 years as a gastroenterologist and physician leader. He now devotes his time to growing Shumaker Vineyards, alongside his wife, Leslie, while maintaining his values of land stewardship and community involvement. He has a deep love for this land we call home and a passion for growing beautiful grapes and creating unique, premium, terroir-driven wines. Every decision is made with these
Leslie joined the vineyard team in 2025, with a deep appreciation for the vision Doug began when he planted the vines in 2014. Since their recent marriage in May 2026, her gratitude has only grown - for Doug, for their partnership, and for the joyful life they are building together.
Leslie grew up as a farm girl in Helvetia Oregon, just 5 minutes down the road from their vineyard. She participated in 4‑H horticulture, picked strawberries in Mountaindale, and worked alongside her family on their small farm. They raised cows, tended a large garden, and grew their own fruits and vegetables- experiences that shaped her respect for the land.
Leslie holds a Doctorate of Medical Science and has been a practicing physician assistant for 19 years. She currently serves as a professor in the School of Medical Sciences at George Fox University, teaching the next generation of Physician Assistants.
While she continues her full‑time clinical/academic work, Leslie is fully vested in supporting their shared dream of creating beautiful wines together, and contributing to the growth of the vineyard.
Doug and Leslie focus on cultivating sustainable, intentional farming practices and helping guide the winery’s future with care, love, and enthusiasm.
Bree & Chad Stock
Husband and wife, winemakers
In 2024, Doug began a partnership with Bree and Chad Stock to help turn his beloved grapes into beautiful wines. A true partnership and friendship were born. Leslie, Doug, Chad and Bree have become great friends and simply love living this incredible life together, creating exceptional wines and indelible memories. Chad and Bree have their own incredible wine label, Limited Addition Wines, which is a constant source of inspiration for Doug and Leslie.

Bree Stock, MW
Bree Stock is a Master of Wine, holding one of the highest qualifications in the wine industry and with over twenty years of international experience across the wine business sector. Australian-born, her wine career began in the Canadian on-trade with Sommelier buying roles on both coasts. On return to Australia she developed broad industry experience in management and sales director roles in on-trade, distribution and importing specializing in wines of the Iberian Peninsular, US and Australia.
An avid explorer and learner she is a certified WSET educator (2008) and became a Master of Wine in 2016. She continues to lecture across all levels of the WSET certification, is the WSET nominated educator at Linfield College Evenstad Center for Wine Education. An international consultant developing and presenting wine certification programs for both trade organizations (Oregon Wine Board, Willamette Valley Wineries Assoc, NW Wine Coalition, Washington State Wine and Tempranillo Alliance) and consumers. She is a frequent presenter at trade conferences such as TEXSOM, SommCon and Cornucopia and an educator with the Online Wine Academy in Napa Valley. She sits on the board of Assemblage Women in Wine, Masters of Wine North America and Demeter Biodynamic, organizations that align with her philosophies. A regular wine judge for international competitions Decanter, TEXSOM TIWA and IWC. Her extensive travels for harvest and brand consulting to the Iberian Peninsula, Central and Eastern Europe, the US, South Africa, and Australia inform her work and drive her consultation partnerships. She co-founded Constant Crush Advisors in 2017 to continue her commitments to knowledge and idea sharing and to expanding the conversation around sustainable and innovative vineyard and wine production.
Chad Stock
Chad Stock holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Enology from California State University Fresno graduating in 2006 with top honors and the University Academic Achievement Award for his graduating class. After completing an apprenticeship in 2006 for Rudd Winery in Oakville, CA, he moved north to Oregon joining the team at Antica Terra in the Eola-Amity Hills, to help redesign and launch the new company. In 2011 he launched his own wine brand “Minimus”. Chad explores viticulture and wine production theory across the state of Oregon and has become the top advisor and consultant in the State for minimal intervention winemaking, vineyard establishment for alternative grape cultivars, and technical education for innovative and rare wine styles. In 2017 Chad launched his newest venture co-founding Constant Crush Advisors, an international comprehensive consultancy company specializing in vineyard and winery development, wine production, product development, packaging, and global product placement.
Valentin Mora
Vineyard Manager and friend
Valentin has been with us since the beginning, literally planting the vines that make our beautiful wines. More importantly, he has given his heart and soul to our vineyard and he is part of our family.
Valentin's story is one of friendship and dedication.
I first met Valentin in 2013 upon the recommendation of the vineyard developer I had hired. The universe blessed me not just with a talented vineyard steward, but with someone who would become a cherished friend. In typical Valentin style, he dedicated himself to our land and treated it as his own. The vineyard we created together is as much his as it is mine. I quite literally could not have done this without him. His tireless work and that of his talented crew have ensured that each vintage we will grow and harvest the best wine grapes the Willamette Valley has to offer.
In 2023, I had the distinct honor and privilege to travel with Valentin to his hometown, Santa Maria Tindu, in the remote mountains of Oaxaca State in southern Mexico. To be invited to his hometown and learn more about him, and to be welcomed into his home and his family was a gift. We laughed and danced in celebration of a friendship born from mutual respect and shared values.
We love you, Valentin! Thank you again for everything you've done to make our vineyard a beautiful reflection of human connection and what can be accomplished when we work together.
